Nomadic Tribal Weaves
Not every fine tribal rug fits neatly into a single named region. This collection gathers vintage Persian rugs woven by nomadic and semi-nomadic tribal groups across Persia — pieces that share a tribal weaving sensibility without belonging to one specific city or village tradition like Heriz, Tabriz, or Hamadan. What unites them instead is how they were made: hand-knotted by tribal families working from memory and inherited pattern knowledge, rather than in fixed workshops following formal designs. That difference shows in the character of the rugs themselves. Tribal weaving tends toward bold, instinctive geometry — diamonds, hooked medallions, stylized animal and plant forms — passed down and reinterpreted from one generation to the next rather than copied precisely. No two weavers, even within the same tribe, produced identical work, which is part of why genuinely tribal rugs feel so distinct from more uniform city-workshop pieces. This collection is intentionally broad by design: a place to discover fine Persian tribal weaving on its own terms, wherever in that nomadic tradition it happens to come from.
